Dwayne Appleby
Dwayne is an Associate of the One Earth Initiative Society, and Funding Director for We Canada, a Canada-wide civil society initiative advocating for Canadian leadership at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20).
Dwayne holds a BA (hons) in International Studies with specializations in International Development, Economics, and Environmental Issues; and a Certificate in Sustainable Community Development from Simon Fraser University. He has studied Humanities at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic.
Growing up in British Columbia’s Fraser Valley, Dwayne developed a deep appreciation for the importance of living in balance with our environment. His passion for citizen engagement led him to co-found a not-for-profit organisation in Langley, BC, that encouraged youth involvement in the political process, and has hosted numerous youth-oriented all-candidates forums during federal, provincial, and municipal elections.
Dwayne has held several research assistantships, including with Service Canada’s Aboriginal Affairs Unit BC / YT, Simon Fraser University’s Centre for Sustainable Community Development, and School for International Studies.
He is currently flirting with a return to academy to pursue an MA in Development Studies.
