Dr. Dan Calhoun joined the Educational Leadership faculty at Georgia Southern University in 2011. Prior to coming to GSU, he most recently served in college administration, working in the student affairs areas of residential life, new student orientation, and student activities.

Research Interests

Dr. Calhoun's research interests are focused on the preparation, development, and support of graduate students and educational leaders, particularly in the areas of mentorship, technology, and supervision.

He also has research interests in the areas of masculinity and the impact of gender identity development on leadership and student learning.

Teaching Interests

Dr. Calhoun's teaching interests include Higher Education Administration and Leadership, History and Foundations of Higher Education, and the incorporation of technology into teaching and learning.

He enjoys working with students both in and outside of the classroom. He hopes that through appropriate challenge and support, by providing concrete connections between theory and practice, and by providing personal mentorship and guidance, that his students become active learners and leaders within higher education and/or the K-12 system.

Personal Information

Dr. Calhoun is originally from rural upstate New York. He is an avid sports fan and loves the outdoors. His wife teaches High School English/Drama and he has two children.
