Darren Withers

Hi there, This is my first attempt at writing a blog in which I'd like to share mine and my sons Elliot interests in all things fossils and also in particular my interests in the geologists from the mid-19thcentury and the quarry who helped them in discovering fossils. I've had a huge interest to be a palaeontologist from about the age of 10yrs old ever since my granddad use to take me fossil hunting. The particular fossil walk we always used to take and found countless amounts of belemnites of all shapes and sizes was a route where belt and band conveyors used to take clay from a pit into the brickyard. I'll explain this process in greater detail on the blog. I'd never imagined that one day id be employed at several brickyards around the Peterborough area and still do now for the last 16 years leading me into the fantastic world of all things fossils from the Oxford Clay . And to pass on my ever expanding knowledge of the oxford clay on to my son as was passed onto me. Now to be an amateur palaeontologist is a dream I've had for a long time now and know it's going to be a long process but having great fun researching / fact finding talking to like-minded people. In particular joining http://www.stamfordgeolsoc.org.uk/ my interest is moving forward all the time.Hope you enjoy our blogs.D&E.
