Damla Yıldırım completed her bachelor degree on “Public Relations and Advertising” at Izmir University of Economics covering subject areas as brand management, integrated marketing communications, campaign development, sociology, popular culture, media law, and visual communication design.

Following her bachelor degree, she was accepted for the "Media and Communication Research” master program at Technical University of Ilmenau where research and innovation stands at the forefront of the program. Meanwhile, she discovered new trends in media and communication
sciences as “eLearning”. She wrote her master thesis about “Awareness and attitudes toward eLearning in order to install and sustain a successful eLearning system” in which she gained the highest possible grade.

Right after completing her master degree, she enrolled in PhD at Technical University of Ilmenau with a proposal to research about “eLearning in diverse subject-matter contexts” to be able to draw a framework of eLearning practices integrated in different subject-matter contexts, particularly in natural/engineering and humanities/social sciences’ subject-matter contexts. She successfully
received her PhD degree in 2014.
