Teacher in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

I am an elementary teacher currently living in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.

Although I just graduated from the B.Ed. program at Wilfrid Laurier (J/I - Science), I'm not exactly new to teaching. My background is in engineering design, and I worked as an Architectural Lighting Designer for many years, but I've been teaching colleagues and university students for over a decade. The more I taught at the university level, the more I wanted to teach.

As I helped adults learn that they could tackle math and science, I discovered that far too many adults left high school never having a meaningful, positive experience with STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)education. Without that early passionate exposure, many people are left feeling like STEM fields are an exclusive club that they can never belong to, and trying to work through this fear with a teenager or an adult is so much more challenging than it needs to be.

By the time I had my own children (now 11 & 9), and had the opportunity to volunteer in elementary classrooms, I realized I had missed my true calling.

I love introducing people of all ages to new concepts and new ways to explore STEM in their own lives and careers, but when you introduce young people to new ideas, it really feels like being a wizard! Getting kids exploring, inquiring, and even making their own tech is nothing short of magical.

My mission is to passionately mentor future generations, to ignite that early sense of wonder and help them to foster that flame for the rest of their lives.
