Currently I am a peer career specialist at the Academic and Career Information Center at Kansas State University. I have been working at ACIC and I have loved the opportunity to get to work with students. My primary responsibility as a career specialist is to work with students to help them explore their passions as well as help them explore potential majors and careers.

In the spring of 2016 I will graduate with a degree in secondary education as well as a degree in mathematics. When I first came to K-State I was not sure what I wanted to do. For a long time I have known that I love working with people and I also love working with numbers. Because of this I thought that a major in business would be a good fit for me. But the more I learned about business, the less sure that is where I wanted to go. So I began to think about education, and the more I learned, the more excited I became at the idea of becoming a teacher. So during my freshman year I switched majors form business to education, and I loved it ever since! Then in the beginning of my Junior year I decided to add a math degree in addition to my education degree.

It was also during the beginning of my junior year that I began to work at ACIC. I have really enjoyed the chance to use both my "Developer" and "Learner" strengths, to both get to know more about the students I work with and where they are coming from, but also they have provided me the opportunity to help students grow and begin to explore their passions. I have really enjoyed getting to work with first-year students and help them begin to explore many of the new passions they are developing.

Because of my experience with changing my major, I know just how difficult and confusing that process can be, and because of that I know just how important ACIC really is. I wish I would have gone to ACIC when I was thinking about changing majors, because I know how much help they can provide when a student is unsure of where they want to go.

Outside of ACIC and class work, I love hiking, traveling, watching sports, and reading. I am a lifelong fan of the Kansas City Royals, and much of my time outside of work involves watching Royals games and talking baseball with anyone who will listen. Besides that I love to be outside in any way I can including hiking, biking, and playing soccer.
