In school, sports and business the two characterizations that have stuck are:
1) I'm a self starter and self learner. I don't need a reason to pursue my interests and I will dive in deep to get to the bottom. Wether it's a philosophy, photography or a language, not a single day has to be wasted if you can learn at least 1 thing in 1 of your interests.
2) I am a decathlete. Interested in many aspects/processes, but never a specialist in one of them. Striving to be good enough to perform the task and knowing where and who to delegate/outsource it to.
Speaking of philosophy, the following quote currently guides/drives me: "Ducunt volentem fata, nolentem trahunt." by Seneca around 30 a.d., which roughly translates into: "The Fates lead him who will. Him who won't, they drag."
Working as a freelancer in mechanical engineering from 2004 has given me the opportunity to look into the kitchen and talk to the chefs of multiple (mechanical)engineering firms and have a taste of a wide range of business processes and communication streams from and to the engineering department. Flow4Co was born in 2010 as a breeding ground for ideas that were not applicable at the employer, but were still good enough to pursue.
To continue the metaphor, the notion that basic salt & pepper solutions to "lesser" tasting food were going to become obsolete my interest shifted towards (intrinsic) motivation, flow and leadership/entrepreneurship.
Among my influencers/heroes are: Tim Ferriss, Malcolm Gladwell, Seth Godin, Simon Sinek, Ramit Sethi, Mihaly Csikszentmihaly, Daniel Pink, Keith Ferrazzi and George Carlin.
