Hi! My name is Ebrahim, a Biological Science major and Chemistry minor at the University of Guelph. I started Fencing at the age of 6 and I am currently the co-president and captain of the University’s Fencing club.

I like to volunteer as much as possible, which has exposed me to so many amazing experiences. I have been volunteering in the medical setting for about 5 years now, including work in small clinics, large hospitals, assisting physiotherapists, and shadowing an orthopedic surgeon. My experiences also involve coaching fencing for interested youth and beginner to advanced swim coaching as a lifeguard and swim instructor. In order to promote overall health and development, I believe it is vital to encourage today’s youth to be as physically involved as possible.

In the summer of 2016, I volunteered and worked with the Syrian Canadian Foundation (SCF) to ease the transition for newly established Refugees. We did so by translating the Ontario curriculum from English to Arabic, providing videos and clear explanations of concepts in math, chemistry, and biology, and matching English tutors to non-English speakers. The SCF also focused on Refugee establishment and empowerment by helping them improve their resume building and interview skills and providing a voice to these victims of war that have been forced to flee their country.

My current career goal is to become a reconstructive plastic surgeon, therefore, the field of science that interests me the most is medicine. As a kid, I was in and out of clinics and hospitals due to being so injury prone. While the constant exposure to hospitals would usually cause people to dislike the setting, I fell in love with it. The respect and elegance that my doctors received was astounding to me and piqued my interest in medicine at a very young age. I soon began to involve myself in medical settings and other areas of science, becoming certified in standard and emergency first aid as soon as I could and recently working in a virology lab to explore the research aspect of science. Someone in the science world that I look up to would be Dr. Wiseleader, an orthopedic surgeon that I shadowed and assisted at Credit Valley Hospital, who inspired me to follow in his foot steps and ultimately open my own hospital.

Fun fact: I used to be a competitive MonoFin swimmer and specialized in long distance sea races and underwater sprints back in Egypt.
