Personal Mission Statement
I believe all students deserve an opportunity to learn, no matter what challenges they may face. I am pursuing the field of special education to use my experiences to help students reach their full potential. I want to assist them in the classroom and help them discover how they learn best. Adaptions can always be made, and with these the individuals will be able to participate and be included in the learning process. Some students need extra attention, and I want to be there to support them and their needs. My goal is to help students of all abilities feel accomplished and motivated to continue learning and growing.
Work Experience:
I have had experiences working with incredibleindividuals inside and outside the classroom. For the past two summers, I workedatPappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC), a pediatric chroniccare hospital for children ages 8-22. Over the summer they have a summer camp, and I was lucky to be a 1:1 aid for a young adult with Cerebral Palsy.
I also have had experiences working at BerkshireHills Music Academy (BHMA), a program that promotes skills of independence foryoung adults with intellectual disabilities, including Down syndrome, Williamssyndrome, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. I assisted in a class teaching community independenceand a class teaching social skills.
Lastly, I spent a semester working in a kindergarten classroom as a para-educator. I helped students focus while the teacher was presenting the lesson. I also assisted the students while they worked in small groups, ensuring they stayed on task and answering any questions they had.
Career Statement:
I am seeking to pursue a job working one on one with students in a classroom. I hope to gain experience working with students of all abilities, and learning what strategies best help students learn the material along with their peers. In the future, I hope to continue my education and attend graduate school in a field that relates to working one on one with students with disabilities.
