Eclipse Recording Co.

St. Augustine, Florida

A little history...

Eclipse was founded in 2000 by Jim Stafford but its origins go back to 1973. It was then that Jim purchased his first multi-track recorder, a TEAC 3340s and his love for recording music began. Since then, through a variety of formats: analog, digital tape and finally ProTools every style and genre have been recorded by Jim.

The first recording done by Eclipse was a live on location recording of “Those Guys”, a longtime favorite group in North Florida. “Those Guys” have many notable members including Artimus Pyle (from Lynyrd Skynyrd) and Banner Thomas of “Molly Hatchet”. That was July of 2000, the same month construction began on the first facility location, a converted warehouse in an industrial park , with the help of Dave Besley.

Listening to the needs of our clients, in 2001 we began our CD design and duplication service in the garage bay of the converted warehouse. Since it wasn’t conditioned very well, “it really got hot in the summertime”, says Janis Brown, who came on board in 2002 to oversee that department.

Josh Adams first joined Eclipse in 2004, bringing additional recording and production capabilities to the team. His expertise is working with young acts, developing their talent and style.

In late spring of 2005, along with Dave Johnson and Al Sweeney, Jim formed The Dream Team Music Group and plans were made for a new facility. It was to be a state-of-the-art studio with isolated floors, equipment upgrades, an additional recording and editing suite and an expanded, air conditioned design and duplication area. The grand opening of the new facility was in August, 2005.

In addition to studio recording and CD duplication, Eclipse has also become the regional leader in remote live music recording. Traveling all over Florida, Georgia and as far north as Virginia, Eclipse has done “on location” recordings of bands, festivals and professional speakers.

Eclipse has, in its first six years, served thousands of clients covering many aspects of the industry: recording, remote recording, TV and radio commercials, CD/DVD design and duplication, audio forensics, sound effects, audio for film, restoration of precious old albums and tapes, working with musicians, songwriters, authors, speakers, voice talent, law enforcement, film production, videogame production, as well as music collectors and audiophiles.
