Remember life before Dropbox, Box.net and 32gb usb fobs?

Back in the first wave of web (1.0) sites, I spent too much time building web applications, drank too much coffee, and figured that storing files online would be the way to go. With a few friends, we built a prototype and soon after founded Driveway.com: one of the first internet file storage platforms went live in 1998.

Before Google docs, we figured out how to make a great user experience in the browser, and directly integrate Office for instant collaboration. With the full support of VC funding, and partners like Microsoft and Lycos, we dealt with super-scaling infrastructure for subscriptions, sharing controls, personalisation and privacy for 40 million accounts by 2000; and went through a complete re-design for a portable, enterprise-ready application, tailored for private-label partners.

A vacation in Australia quickly became 12 years. On the far side of the Pacific, I worked on mobile data platforms and innovative telecom applications in a very different business culture, focussed on practicality, service management and return on investment. In this time, I matured and formalised my skills with management, enterprise architecture and IT strategy experience in a state transport agency.
