Ed Barnard

Emergency Physician and Academic in Cambridge, UK

I am an emergency physician with sub-specialty training in pre-hospital and academic emergency medicine, with extensive experience in trauma, anaesthesia, and critical care across both civilian and military settings.

My ethos is simple: deliver the highest quality emergency care wherever the patient may be - at the roadside, in the resus bay, or through research and education. To this end, I have trained and practised in more than 15 hospitals in the UK and overseas, worked across five prehospital systems, mentored medical students and trainees, delivered national and international lectures, organised a national research and innovation meeting, and published over 50 peer-reviewed papers. My work has been recognised with five national research awards and a PhD from a top-100 research university.

In 2023 I was appointed UK Defence Professor of Emergency Medicine, RCEM/NIHR Associate Professor, and Affiliated Assistant Professor at the University of Cambridge.

My career ambition is to continue as a clinician-investigator in a leading academic trauma centre - combining world-class patient care with impactful research, and inspiring the next generation of emergency physicians through mentorship and education.
