Eddiyah Frye
Student in Athens Georgia
I am Eddiyah Frye, I am on the Track & Field team at UGA. Track & Field has been my passion for years. I began my track journey when I was four years old. Originally I just wanted to do something fun, when I was young I always used to see my brother going to various practices and having a bunch of different things to do and I would always say “When am I going to do something.” One day while my dad and I were waiting for my brother to finish basketball practice we discovered a club track team and this is where my journey began. In my first 8 years of the sport, I was doing long-distance events my range was from 800 Meters to sometimes running 5K races. Sadly my love for the races began to go away and since my love of the sport was still there my father and I decided it was time for a change in events. I began doing the 100 Hurdles which you could say is one of the hardest events in track and field because it requires so much coordination, quickness, and speed traits that you would not think a long-distance runner would have. From the age of 13, I began making a name for myself in the track and hurdle community. Going into high school I was one of the top-ranked incoming freshmen, and I lived up to that ranking by winning the state championship which was not very common for freshmen. Throughout high school, I had many ups and downs on the track my sophomore year. You can say I did extremely badly. My junior year got canceled due to Covid-19 after that I was extremely determined to become number one again. In my senior year, I became the number one female high school 100 Hurdler in the nation. I was undefeated all season. I now start a clean slate at UGA. I am looking forward to this season.
