Eddy Malave

New York City

Eddy malave is a native of Long Island, New York where he began his musical training in viola under Irene Stitt and piano under Ana maria Trenchi di Bottazzi. He is the recipient of the William Gluck fellowship at the Juilliard School. He holds both a Bachelors and Masters degree from The Juilliard School in viola performance studying under William Lincer. Past teachers have also included Patricia Cornell,Patinka Kopec, Margaret Pardee, Roland Vamos, Heidi Castleman and Joey Corpus. Eddy has performed before President Bill Clinton at the Middle East peace talks ( Israel Forum Policy) and for Pope benedict during the Pope's visit to New York. He has also worked with artists as diverse as Elton John, Placido Domingo and Dmitri Rostropovich. He has collaborated with DJ Victor Calderone and many other prominent artists in various venues around the world. Currently as an active freelance violist, some of the ensembles he has performed with are the Se Jong Soloists, the Orchestra of St. Lukes and NYC ballet. He also plays in a number of Broadway shows such as The Phantom of the Opera and The Lion King to name a few. Mr Malave is a certified Suzuki violin/ viola teacher and is currently on the faculty of the Third Street Music Settlement. Mr. Malave is also a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique. He has studied extensively with Thom Lemmons and John Nicholls. Eddy has presented the Alexander Technique at the British Columbia Music Teachers conference in Surrey, B.C., Canada, at the American Institute of Musical Studies ( A.I.M.S.) Graz, Austria, at the Volterra Project in Volterra, Italy, at the National Conservatory of Music in Amman, Jordan, at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, Connecticut, at the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, N.C., The Frost School of music at the University of Miami, Florida, The Institute for the Alexander Technique in Buenos Aires, Argentina and at the 2012 International Viola Congress held at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. and for the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival at the Juilliard School.He currently teaches the Alexander Technique in the Department of Music and Music Professions at NYU/ Steinhardt. He maintains a private studio as well.
