Eden

Cape Town, South Africa.

I've learned that saying "Hi, I'm Eden," doesnt mean anything, and my name is not my identity. As long as I can remember, I've always had the hardest time putting who I am into words. So here goes. My name is Eden, born Eden Megan Bezuidenhout. I rarely tell people my surname, as I'm not really fond of it. I think it's really long and very Afrikaans. I grew up in Wellington, a beautiful little town in the heart of the Boland, but have always longed for the city.

I started staying in Cape Town in 2013, during my first year of university and I really enjoy how refreshingly different it is. I came to study at the Univeristy of Cape Town as a bright eyed, bushy tailed psychology major, but somehow along the way I fell in love with writing. I'm now in my second year majoring in sociology and media.

I like writing, because I'm not that good at speaking. I never know what to say and always come off slightly awkward. That's probably why I'm so obsessed with photography. I'm not that great, but I can't wait to learn how to create the beautiful images I look at for hours online. My weheartit page is my home. And so is 9gag. I love beautiful photographs, but I'm a sucker for memes.

I think I spend way too much time on the internet, but I'm ok with that. Rainy days are the best, because I get to do what I love (staying in bed, internetting) without any social obligations. Oh, and tea. I love tea. All kinds, at any time of day. There's one for every mood. There's no limit to the amount of time I can stay in bed, with my laptop in the fetal position, next to a window with a view that is highly instagramable.

In 2014 I got diagnosed with depression, anxiety and ADD. Although it's been a long time coming, it reached an ultimate low and I was forced to take a break from varsity. I was admitted to a clinic in November 2014 to deal with the lemons life has handed me. It is there that I got introduced to and fell in love with one of my now favourite pass times - crafting.

There are few things in life as blissful as doing what you love and seeing other people happy. Crafting allows me to do just that, as I can spend hours mixing paint and folding papers, with a result always fit enough to put a smile on someone's face. I've therefore decided to start a blog to take people on this magical journey with me.
