Edmund Antell

Edmund Antell is a recent environmental studies graduate from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. Throughout his career at Bates, Mr. Antell participated in a number of programs, both as an academic and as a volunteer, which allowed him to gain a broad understanding of the environmental sciences. He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in May of 2011. For a graduate project during his senior year at Bates, Edmund Antell studied two species of baitworms that live along the Maine Coast and are harvested for commercial fisheries. He plans to continue to work on his research project and publish his findings sometime within the next two years. In the summer of 2009, Mr. Antell was a volunteer through the Student Conservation Association, which is a student organization that provides hands-on learning opportunities in conservation. He worked primarily in the Bob Marshall Wilderness in western Montana. In the summer of 2010, Mr. Antell worked directly for the US Forest Service as a Forestry Technician and practiced trail maintenance. His job took him through parts the Bob Marshall Wilderness in which he cleared and maintained trails and assisted in controlling invasive plant species. Edmund Antell’s other duties included contacting and engaging with other hikers in the wilderness and responding to any emergencies that occurred within his territory. Edmund Antell is a member of several professional organizations, including Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, Southern Maine Chapter. He also is a trained Emergency Medical Technician at the basic level through American Medical Response and a Wilderness First Responder through Wilderness Medical Associates. Mr. Antell has been a donor to Environment Massachusetts since 2007 and was named among the Honor Roll of Donors at Bates College in 2011.
