Edward R. Shapiro, M.D.

Austen RIggs Center

I am a psychiatrist, family therapist, and organizational consultant. I've been involved with psychodynamic social and family systems since doing clinical research on families at the National Institute of Mental Health. I founded and directed an innovative family and adolescent treatment program at McLean Hospital in Boston, and was Medical Director/CEO of the Austen Riggs Center for twenty years. I currently offer intensive two-day family consultations at my office in Stockbridge, Massachusetts -- organized around a range of presenting family problems. I also direct experiential conferences on organizational dynamics, consult to family businesses, law firms and health care institutions, coach executives and have written and taught extensively in this country and abroad on these issues. I have a deep and abiding interest in understanding how people can obstruct their own development and am committed to help them be more in charge -- in their lives, their social networks and their organizations.
