Eduardo Mendez Marassa
Teacher, Writer, and Father in Hong Kong
I received my B.A. in Spanish Philology from the University of León and obtained a Master’s degree in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED, Madrid). My dissertation was about the specific problems of Chinese learners of Spanish. I later obtained a Master's degree in Education in the field of Research in Language and Literature Teaching from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). I am writing a thesis dissertation about teaching Spanish Literature in a Hong Kong university and I have published around a dozen papers about different academic topics. I have been teaching Spanish as a foreign language at different educational institutions since 2001 in the United States, China, Hong Kong, Spain and the Czech Republic. My research interests include cross cultural approaches to language teaching and learning, in particular those related to Asian cultures, language ideology, comparative literature, the use of music in Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) class and the teaching of Spanish literature to non-native students. Teaching is my passion and my students are the best ambassadors of my professional qualities.
