Edward Ingebretsen

Professor, author, and health and fitness specialist trainer Edward Ingebretsen earned both his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Master’s degree in Education from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. At Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, Edward Ingebretsen completed a Licentiate in Philosophy before returning to California to receive a Master of Divinity from the California Graduate School of Theology. Attending Duke University for his Ph.D. in English, Edward Ingebretsen concentrated on 19th and 20th century American literature, American culture, and Christianity. Accepting a teaching position with Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Edward Ingebretsen began his career as a Visiting Assistant Professor. After passing the university’s demanding selection process over a 15-year period, Edward Ingebretsen received full professorship. Functioning primarily as a Professor within the Department of English, Edward Ingebretsen designed courses, served as Director of Georgetown’s American Studies program, and researched and published numerous books and journal articles on American literature, popular culture, gender practice, and theology. Over the past 2 decades, he has taught an average of 200 students per year. Outside of academia, Edward Ingebretsen is the Director of Training at Results Gym in Washington, D.C. Initially hired as a part-time trainer, Edward Ingebretsen earned a promotion to Head Trainer after two years and to Director after 12 additional months. In addition to administering the program, Ingebretsen works with was many as 20 individuals a week. He points out that training in a gym should prepare one for life in the world, not in the gym. He helps people "liberate themselves from machines" and build strength for everday physical demands. As Director, he supervises over 50 trainers and creates marketing and promotional strategies designed to bring an awareness of basic health and fitness into daily life. Edward Ingebretsen was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in the early 1980s and now affiliates with the American Catholic Church. He holds a religious license in all 50 states and is licensed in Washington, D.C., to perform religious and secular wedding services. Working in conjunction with Purple Unions, a gay and lesbian wedding vendor directory, Edward Ingebretsen helps couples file for their marriage licenses and plan their ceremonies.
