eHarmony UK

Established in the USA in 2000, eHarmony has become one of the most popular dating websites in the world, responsible for nearly 5% of new US marriages*. Launched in the UK in 2008, eHarmony prides itself on taking a scientific approach to online dating, with a focus on bringing people looking for long-term relationships together, based on their individual personalities.

Dr Neil Clark Warren, a clinical psychologist, developed the concept after 35 years’ experience of counselling married couples. Teaming up with a research professor at the University of Southern California, Dr Galen Buckwalter, Dr Warren set out to define the traits of a successful relationship and develop a formula for long-lasting relationships, using their results to create eHarmony’s Compatibility Matching System™, which matches up an enormous number of couples every day.

Prior to the launch of eHarmony in the UK, the company linked up with the Oxford Internet Institute at the University of Oxford, sticking to its original commitment to scientific process and a rigorously researched model of relationships. Bringing together a multi-disciplinary research team, data was gathered from more than 1,000 couples covering all age ranges and lengths of relationship to create a completely new system of understanding successful relationships for the unique culture of the United Kingdom. This research led to a different model and a new personality test, solely for residents of the UK, leading to more successful matches than was possible before. eHarmony has been rated the No. 1 UK dating site by the UK Online Dating Review, an independent review, showing that this commitment to a rational process of finding romantic partners is definitely one that pays off.
