Eileen Richardson

Small Business Owner in Nova Scotia

My name is Eileen Richardson. I’m a Nova Scotia local and a small business owner with a genuine love for the East Coast. I manage a cozy cafe and lunch restaurant nestled in a coastal town, where I serve specialty coffees and warm, homemade comfort foods. My menu includes a rotation of fresh soups, sandwiches, and scratch-baked goods.

Over the years, my shop has become a favourite gathering spot for both local residents and visitors looking for a relaxed space to unwind and enjoy a thoughtful meal. It has been incredibly rewarding to watch the cafe grow into a community hub where people share stories over morning espressos or spend quiet afternoons reading. Building this space has helped me connect more with the people in my neighbourhood, making the long hours and hard work entirely worth it.

My career in hospitality taught me what it takes to run a successful, customer-facing business. I pour that experience into my daily operations, offering friendly service and preparing food with genuine care. The meals I make include seasonal ingredients and classic East Coast favourites that make people feel right at home.

I take pride in sourcing ingredients from nearby farmers and producers whenever possible to show customers the beauty of what our region has to offer. Handling the challenges of supply chains, changing seasons, and daily operations has only deepened my resourcefulness and dedication to this work.

When I’m not busy running the shop, I spend my free time exploring the Maritime provinces. I enjoy hiking along coastal cliffs and quiet inland trails, and I usually keep track of my adventures in a personal journal. These hikes are my primary way to disconnect from the demands of the business and clear my head in the woods or by the ocean.

Aside from my time in nature, I volunteer at a local Maritime history museum that focuses on seafaring heritage. Doing so helps me stay connected to the historical stories and traditions that formed Nova Scotia’s coastal way of life.

Regardless if I’m behind the counter at the cafe, on a hike, or at the museum, my focus is always on supporting the local culture and heritage that makes this province so unique.
