San Diego, Calif.

I’m an independent journalist (as well as a writer and editor) covering many areas including (but not limited to) entrepreneurship, technology, small business, the workplace, social issues, social trends and family. I also write about where these areas intersect.

For more than six years I wrote the monthly “Career Couch” column in the New York Times Sunday Business section, and until December, the small business blog/columns “Start” and “Tech Support” for the NYTimes.com. I am a frequent contributor to the Times‘ small business section. These days I write a column on startups and technology for Forbes.

My work has appeared in many other places, including the Christian Science Monitor, CNNMoney.com, Salon.com and Crain’s NY Business, CNBC.com, Glamour, the San Francisco Chronicle, Slate.com, Huffington Post, Psychology Today and Fortune Small Business. You can find lots of my work on my website and follow me on twitter. (And I really do like to bake, especially cookies.)

Through ContentMatters, I create content for businesses, universities and non-profits.

In addition to my professional work, I tutor students at The Monarch School in San Diego, the largest school for homeless children in the nation. Learn how you can lend support here.
