Elward J. Hiss IV

I am currently a senior at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. I am pursuing a degree in Golf Course Management with a minor in Business and plan on graduating in 2013. I have always had a strong interest in the game of golf which led me towards this career path. This, coupled with the hardworking mentality I developed growing up in a farming background motivates me towards my goal of one day becoming a superintendent. I am constantly working to improve my knowledge of the course and the game. I feel that I would be a solid addition for any course looking for a knowledgeable self-motivated individual.

Course Experience:Colbert Hills Golf Club: As an intern/employee at Colbert Hills I received a great education in general turf maintenance. In addition to this I was schooled in the art of environmental awareness as Colbert Hills is a Certified Silver Audubon Signature Sanctuary. I was able to not only work with the majority of the equipment, but I was also involved in problem solving and planning as well. It helped give me insight into the average day of a superintendent and prepare me for the future.Time: May 2011- Present. Employers: CGCS Matt Gourlay and Assistant Superintendent Derek Branting.

Denver Country Club: I was a summer intern at the DCC during the summer of 2012. It was an exciting opportunity to work for one of the premier courses in Colorado. The DCC has been around since 1887 so it was a great experience working for a course with a steeped tradition. Employer: Assistant Superintendent Ben Getman and 1st Assistant Mitch Savage.

Activities & Honors: Member of Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (Treasurer of Kansas State University chapter.), Member and Public Relations Officer of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, Active in various K-State intramural sports, Active in community service and philanthropies netting over 25 hours of service work this semester, Collegiate Farm Bureau Chair Member (Fall 2009-Spring 2010), Qualified for Board of Regents in high school, Top 20% of high school graduating class, Varsity golf captain in high school, Eagle Scout
