Elizabeth Switaj

Majuro, Marshall Islands

Elizabeth Kate Switaj is the Social Media Editor of Poets' Quarterly and a Liberal Arts Instructor at the College of the Marshall Islands in Majuro, where she lives with three formerly feral cats.

Her first collection of poetry, Magdalene & the Mermaids is published by Paper Kite Press. Her short stories have appeared in venues such as the Kenyon Review and Sundog Lit.

Her first book of literary criticism, James Joyce's Teaching Life and Methods, is forthcoming from Palgrave. She has published critical work in the Journal of Modern Literature, Hypermedia Joyce Studies, and edited collections such as The Performance Identities of Lady Gaga.

In 2012, Elizabeth completed a PhD in English at Queen's University Belfast with a dissertation on James Joyce as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language. While completeing her PhD, she served as the Assistant Managing Editor of Irish Pages. She holds an MFA in Poetics and Creative Writing from New College of California, as well as a BA from The Evergreen State College. Previously, she taught English in Japan and China.
