I have always been fascinated by the mysteries of biology. My favourite plants belongs to the family of legumes, which include every day foods like peas and beans. These plants are able to interact with soil bacteria to obtain their our source of nitrogen so they do not need additional nitrogen fertilizers. Isn't that cool? As a result, bacteria are able to live inside the roots of the plant in structures called nodules. If you look at the inside of these structures using a stain for DNA under the microscope, you will see beautiful images like the one you see in the background.
