John Campbell

I promise to work diligently to achieve the most cost effective delivery of service to the citizens of Saint John. This will take proactive and creative leadership combined with a team approach engaging both city hall and the public in all aspects as we move forward. The following are my campaign priorities for Saint John. If elected, I will strive to build consensus with my fellow councilors to move our city forward.

1) Finalize and institute a plan with proper funding for safe, clean drinking water. We need an innovative and cost effective solution.

2) Create a working committee comprised of energetic and informed citizens and business professionals to undertake a complete review of city operations from the City Manager on down.

3) Advocate more spending and resources to improve roads and infrastructure. Commit the gas tax transfers to road maintenance at a minimum.

4) Change the attitude at city hall to be pro-business and pro-citizen. How can we empower our citizenry to improve the city.

5) Advocate for real reforms to the pension plan. We need to change the structure of the board and institute a transitional pension plan from Defined Benefit to Defined Contribution.

6) Conduct a comprehensive review of our Public Transit system. The review must include members of the public, frontline workers and transportation professionals.

7) Ensure Emergency Services manning levels are appropriate to retain the confidence of the public. We must utilize best practices to ensure affordable and manageable delivery of these important services without placing undue financial stress on the most vulnerable members of our community.

8) Animal Control be treated has a contractual agreement between the City of Saint John and the service provided, and adhere to normal business practices of mutual respect and co-operation.

My life experiences leads me understand and respect the motto, "Never say never". With due respect, I stand by the following principles and will not bend them to gain public favour as they are the cornerstone of my endeavors in public life.

1) No residential development of Rockwood Park.

2) No special benefits to select employees of Saint John

3) Advocate and strive for fiscally responsible governance
