Ensuring Accountability: Our constitution and bylaws have not been updated since 2006. They are unclear and don’t provide enough detail for the SLS to be held accountable. As President I will establish and chair a working group aimed at reviewing the constitution, bylaws and policies of the SLS in order to add clarity. I want to ensure that our reps achieve short and long term results and that our policies for things like granting SLS contracts and the SLS Fellowships, are transparent.

Greater Outreach: The SLS is constantly concerned with how to improve student life and ensure students are engaged. As President I will provide monthly updates on SLS initiatives and I will hold office hours so that students can drop by. I will improve consultation with students on significant law school policy changes. I also believe we can improve the law school community by offering an even greater variety of events. I think offering law school sports tournaments a few times a year would be a great way for people to connect and de-stress!

Supporting Students: I know that one of the best ways to support students is to know how they feel about the issues. The 1L program will undergo a three year review after next year and I will ensure that the SLS is prepared with a position on where improvements are needed. As President I will also continue to support the work of Caucus on policy issues like financial aid, academic and career planning. I will help Faculty of Law clubs seek recognition with the UTSU over the summer, so that they are poised to apply for funding in the fall. I will also implement a clubs meeting at the beginning of the year so that clubs can have their funding questions answered.

This is an ambitious agenda which I believe is the best way to move our law school community forward in the coming year. If you have any questions or comments please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me [email protected]
