Eleni Thanos

Hi, I’m Eleni. I love chatting science with people of all ages which is why I'm making the career move to communications, which is why I'm studying my Masters of Communication (Digital Media) at Deakin University. I'm now on the path to becoming a science communicator, so I'm ditching my labcoat for a keyboard! I want to be able to geek out about all things science with everyone!

I'd like my communications work to encourage non-science professionals to discover the everyday science in our lives and to participate in it with fun and creativity.

Topics in science communication that I wish to pursue in my thesis:

*understanding how celebrity endorsement and/or creation of false or misleading science contributes to the rapid sharing of misinformation through social media

*what factors individuals consider when attempting to analyse reliable and/or credible science information found through social media

*does trolling in social media commentary on science news articles contribute to online rumours and echo chambers

Outside of uni and work I volunteer at the MAAS (Museum of Arts and Applied Science) Powerhouse where I spend my time chatting with the public about the museums awe inspiring displays and creating magical experiences that will encourage curiosity and learning.
