Elizabeth M. Molacek

Elizabeth is an art historian, educator, and researcher. Her research focuses on Roman visual culture and her recent dissertation considers the relationship between first century AD Roman wall paintings and contemporary optical theory. Her interests include the interaction between art and ancient viewers; ancient surface decoration; and antiquity collecting practices.

Elizabeth is also committed to education, both inside and outside of the classroom. In addition to conventional teaching roles, Elizabeth is the Program Director at Hereford Residential College at the University of Virginia. In this dynamic role, she is constantly creating and locating spaces and situations for learning beyond the traditional classroom.
