Functional Medicine Practitioner in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands
Greetings, I’m Elizabeth. I’m a Functional Medicine Practitioner and yoga teacher living in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Functional Medicine is a holistic approach to medicine and healing that identifies and treats imbalances at the cellular, molecular and genetic levels, that lead to the expression of chronic disease. Instead of treating symptoms, we dig deeper, finding and treating the root cause of chronic disease. Once these healing opportunities are identified natural therapies are used to restore function. These therapies include using food as medicine, stress management and exercise. Treatments are individualized, recognizing that no two individuals are alike.
Functional medicine embraces yoga as well as other modalities of stress management and exercise. It is important to find a modality that suits each individual such that excercising is something to look forward to.
As a yoga teacher I am uniquely qualified to offer education in both yoga and functional medicine. As an exercise modality yoga combines resistance training, cardio and flexibility. The benefits of yoga are numerous. Just like food, yoga can literally upregulate positive genetic expression and downregulate negative genetic expresson. Every day more and more scientific studies confirm these many benefits that include physiological, psychological, biochemical and structural. The goal of functional medicine is to optimize wellness and build vital reserve. The synergistic effect of a practice such as yoga combined with functional medicine facilitates and hastens the process of achieving this goal.
Finally, I am also a bit of a "foodie". I love creating ( and eating) exotic, healthy, ethnic dishes.
