Elizabeth Reyes
Teacher in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Originally from Amherst, Massachusetts, I am currently a doctoral candidate in Curriculum & Instruction at Arizona State University. Before moving to Arizona to pursue my PhD, I obtained a Masters in Applied Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts, Boston with a concentration in ELL education.
I have had an interest in language learning ever since I was old enough to begin to shape my own educational path, studying German, French and Chinese in high school and college and then spending two years living and studying in Bangkok, Thailand, where I acquired full fluency in Thai. I am also bilingual and bi-literate in Spanish.
In addition to my passion for language learning, I have been dedicated to the field of teaching, and I have taught ELL/EFL both in the United States and abroad in Mexico and Thailand. My early experiences teaching abroad launched me on an incredible personal, professional, and academic journey that continues to fuel my passion for education. In addition to the field of language learning, my current research interests include Public Pedagogy, Multicultural Education, Cultural Studies in Education, and Curriculum Design.
When I am not busy “dissertating,” I enjoy taking time to engage in some of my other life-passions, including, sewing, traveling, learning to play the Celtic fiddle, and hanging out with my (three) dogs.
