“Breathe In. Breathe Out”

A vast majority of individuals across the world partake in different activities to escape reality. This can be shown in many different forms such as reading a heart-throbbing romance book, or taking a leisurely walk through a local forest. The human race has made it a habit to escape reality in their own ways. Track and field has been my form of escape during my highschool experience.

I specialized in the 400m and 100m dash, and triple jump. The feeling of my spikes crushing the pavement and the seconds increasing rapidly, provided a sense of exhilaration and a feeling of lightness. The idea of sprinting across an entire track at full speed, once filled me with a feeling of dread. Until, I placed first at the Grayson Invitational in the 400 meter dash. The season ran smoothly prior to rolling my ankle before JV County my sophomore year.

Sitting in the CT Scan room allowed me to ponder on why Track was my form of escape. Running allowed me to enter a reality that was based on the illusion that all the adversities/tribulations of life simply didn’t exist. Therefore, I run whenever I need to clear my mind and escape my reality. Running is an activity that clears my head and physically frees me from all my anxiety even if it’s only for a little while.
