My idea of paradise is being surrounded by books and their readers. I would love to bring my skills to your library.
I earned my Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Missouri – Columbia, where I maintained an A average in the program. I have experience in providing highly specialized reference services to a group of wildlife and contaminants biologists from my position as an Information Specialist at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Columbia Field Office. I also have experience in providing general reference services in person and remotely from my practicum at the Missouri River Regional Library. I have a passion for reader’s advisory services as well and have provided such services in a variety of formats in my position at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
I am a creative problem solver and love taking the initiative to find innovative solutions to difficult problems. For example, the library at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Columbia Field Office was outdated and difficult to access when I began in my position as an Information Specialist there. I have since implemented a modern ILS to improve access to the collection, weeded and provided more focus to the development of the collection –and I did all of it with a $0 budget. I regularly provide technology use instruction in my position at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. In my practicum, I offered a class on basic Drupal skills when I became aware that very few staff were comfortable using the basic functions of the library’s website. I also assisted with e-book instruction classes offered to the public at the Missouri River Regional Library.
I have extensive database administration and maintenance experience as well as extensive experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, Access and Excel from my position at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. I have experience with a variety of other software including Adobe Acrobat Pro, InCopy and InDesign; website creation products including Wordpress, Drupal and Weebly; and with many electronic databases including EBSCO products, Elsevier Science Direct and LexisNexis.
