Ellary Walsworth

My name is Ellary, and I am ready. I am ready to make a relatively permanent change in the world around me. I go to the Miami Valley School. In our American Government class, our teacher, Mr. Squires, teaches us to reach out to the world by taking the things we know and are learning in our government class and using YouTube and other parts of the internet to reach out. I was going to use this page as a way to reach out about government and what we are learning, but the ideas I have and what I myself can do to help the world around me are begining to take control. I am calling for a renaissance of our education. We had established a system we thought would help us to maintain rank with other countries as it pertains to education, but we have fallen behind. While our country is amazing in almost every aspect, I find that we squander the potential of students. Recently, a fifteen year old boy found a way to test for pancreatic cancer before it spreads. He did this by taking something that mattered. Using the pain of losing a family friend, he devoted himself whole-heartedly to finding the correct method of testing. Now, if we taught every student how to take something they love and that applies to themselves, and use it to gain knowledge and drive, they could further better the community and the world around them. My project is to show the world how to do this. If you know of any independent school or group of people willing to help toward this cause, please email me information, because I can only go so far. I need your help to make this a revolution.

I just got back from China! my school, in effort to change the style of learning, has a month long period called "Immersion." During this time period, we either travel or stay nearby, and the entire point is to learn about yourself and the world around you through an immersive, interactive, and experiential way of learning. I know that I personally learned more about myself then i ever have, and for all who have the idea of changing to be experiential, I recommend checking out our website for the proof that you may need to explain how effective immersion is.
