I’m a mid-40s, sort-of-stepmom, former journalist-turned-communications connoisseur who coined the phrase “tri-statal” – at least I think I made it up – to describe my life: My job is in Rhode Island; my life is in New Hampshire; and my pillow is in Massachusetts.
I came up with the name Somewhere in the Middle for my blog because I’m in the middle of a lot of things: I live in the middle – between my job and my life; I’m nearing mid-life (assuming I live to my 90s or better); I’m middle-of-the-road on most things – not really a fanatic or hater of anything; I’m pushing past the mid-point of my manuscript revision; and am somewhere in the middle of figuring out how to balance work, family, friends, my typical 2,500 miles of driving each month, my personal goals, financial goals (2,500 miles a month puts a dent in the savings) and my health.
I wrote my lifestyle column, Slice of Life, from 1999-2006. It was published in a few papers around the U.S., hitting the 500,000 circulation mark, and it was truly a privilege to write it and to be welcomed into people’s homes and lives. I willingly gave it up when I changed careers, but I miss it. I miss wearing my heart on my sleeve. I miss the creative outlet and the opportunity I had to really reach people.
I hope my new blog gives me that voice again. Feel free to comment on my blog, or to email me directly at [email protected].
