“You’re from Ohio? Why did you come here?!?” A conversation that occurs multiple times a week. Many people perceive Ohio as boring and random, which can be true, but that state and those people have made me into the person I am today. Now I don’t like to get cheesy, but I’d like to fill you in on who I am today and the reason why. I grew up in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio with my loving family and enjoyable friends. As college decision day approached, CRAZY me decided to pick up everything and move to Georgia. I was scared and homesick at first, but this life transition is what brought out the best in me. College is a dream in itself, and there are many ways I decide to live my dream everyday.

Through my time here at UGA, I’ve learned how to talk to people. I have learned that most people in life won’t judge you for what you have to say. Just say it. You’ll never get that chance again. Even though I oftentimes say too much, this is something that has enhanced my college experience. Being my outgoing self is the best version.

I’ve learned how to be genuine and nice to others. Hold the door for somebody. Pay for someone’s coffee behind you in line. Give a friend a compliment. You don’t know what others are going through or what they’re thinking. Be a good friend despite what you hear about that person from somebody else. Spread love.

I’ve learned how to go with the flow of life. Life is so much more fun when it’s unexpected, and that has been my favorite thing this past year. There is no reason to overthink about stupid things or try to change things that you don’t have control over. Live life in the moment and let it take you where you’re supposed to go. You never know when something random and spectacular might happen.

This transition has taught me that being myself is the best person to be. I am so thankful that I have found a place that can bring out the best of my heart and my fun side as well. Don’t get me wrong, I love my hometown with all of my heart, but there is something about Athens that makes every human happy and free spirited. No one can argue that.
