Emily Lubbers
Teacher in Minto, Ontario, Canada
Hi! My name is Emily, and I teach at a small rural high school in Ontario. I have a degree in English and History from Wilfrid Laurier University, and I attended teacher’s college at Western. I have been teaching for 8 years, 6 years at my current school in the Upper Grand DSB. Because I teach at a smaller high school, I end up wearing several hats. I started in my role as teacher-librarian last September, but our school does not have full-time library allotment and so I also taught an English course each semester. I am the Literacy Lead for my school, which means I am quite involved with the OSSLT, as well as promoting school wide literacy. I'm taking this course for the professional growth opportunity (read: future department headship), and to help me be more effective in my current roles.
I keep busy in my "spare time" instilling my love of reading in my own kids, ages 7 and 3 (between soccer, piano lessons and park play dates that is). I’m a self-proclaimed Pinterest addict and coffee lover and of course I love a good book. This all sounds very cliché for a teacher-librarian, but I definitely embrace it!
