I have always had an intense interest in understanding why people do what they do and how it is that even with billions of people on Earth, most manage to go through their day, doing their work, and taking care of themselves and their families. That's why I became a sociologist.

When flying in an aircraft, I look down and see how people organize the surface of the Earth. When flying, you really don't see people. You can see their cars and trucks and things they have built, like homes, office buildings, stadiums, schools, and roads. You see structures and vehicles.

I enjoy meeting people who have similar interests and talking with large groups, as a speaker. It is never just a one-way speech, but a conversation with people on issues about how people work together in hospitals, for example,

Being a husband means that I have a companion who helps me through each day and with whom I can have wonderful conversations about the people on the Earth.
