Emery Matthews
Real estate investment professional Emery Matthews is the director of corporate occupier and investor services at Signature Associates Commercial Real Estate, where he strives to increase occupier efficiency as well as investor profits. Before joining Signature Associates, Emery Matthews spent six years working as CIO at MayfieldGentry Realty Advisors in Detroit and, earlier, six years as leasing director at Hines Interests.
Prior to his professional real estate career, Emery Matthews worked hard to attain a top-level education that would allow him to build the career he wanted. Although he started out as a disadvantaged youth in urban Detroit, Matthews excelled in school and received an academic scholarship to study business at the University of Michigan, where he was elected student government representative from the Business School. He graduated in four years and scored in the 90th percentile on the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) and in the 99th percentile on the LSAT (Law School Admission Test). Soon thereafter, he enrolled at prestigious Harvard University in a dual JD/MBA program with a focus on real estate.
At Harvard, Emery Matthews continued to stand out. As a law student, he became a member of the Tenant Advocacy Project and the Black Student Law Association. In the MBA program, he was named a Bert King Foundation Fellow and was elected Section Senator by his peers. He graduated both programs in 2000.
