Melissa Chavez

My name is Melissa Chavez and I'm currently a senior at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In Spring 2013 I will be graduating with a Bachelors in English with a concentration in creative writing and a minor in biology.

When I was 4-years-old I told my mom I was going to be an "ice cream lady" so that I could bring her ice cream every night when I came home from work and create new, delicious flavors for customers. As amazing as that career sounds, I have changed my mind in the years since then. From middle school onward I thought I wanted to be a pediatrician, a paleontologist, a magazine editor and finally a writer. In many ways my goal becoming an ice cream maker stuck, receiving a Bachelors in English and a minor in biology isn't a very common goal, but I chose it because it was right for me.
