A piece of writing is like a play dough scuplture

Writing is like playing with play dough. Picking up a ball of dough I roll it between my hands, forming an outline. Once the outline is complete, I begin sculpting. If I don’t like sections of the piece, I flatten them and start over. Rolling, pinching, squeezing the dough, ideas flow from my mind. Each thought brings a new color into my piece. The new colors add depth; catch the eyes of others, sparking interest. Every revision molds it to be better, bringing it closer to being finished. I press and mold, knowing what my sculpture will look like. All the colors mix together, creating my masterpiece. I near the end of my process and add the last finishing touches. I am left with a writing piece full of my thoughts and ideas: a multicolored sculpture of play dough. Background photo by dbrekke
