I am a 5th year student at the University of Cincinnati studying Fine Arts and Art Educaton.
My work explores the relationship between humanity and nature – more specifically, the fragility of life and the urgency of death. These themes are represented in the subject matter in my photographs. A large component of my works is photographically captured elements of nature. As fragile subjects, flowers and other plants symbolize the delicate aspects of life, and the ultimate presence of death. In some photographs attempts are made at life and death existing simultaneously: healthy flowers are consumed by black voids.
Not only do these subjects engage a conversation of the duality of life, they also relate my personal narrative. As autobiographical materials my works explore personal memories from my childhood spent in my mother’s greenhouse. Like my works, the moments spent with my mother make me aware of how important nature is in our daily lives.
