Emily Hutchinson

Marlow

My names Emily and you can normally either find me stuck to a spin bike in the gym or running in circles around Marlow. If you can't find me in either of those places then im probably making a mess in my kitchen or travelling far and wide in search of the perfect tin of chickpeas (Don't ask!)

A little bit about me is that I'm currently 19 and am on a gap year before going to Uni in Autumn 2013 to study sport and exercise science. I've moved around alot from being born in Germany, doing my middle school years in Texas, going to several schools in the UK because of my dad's job. I did my GCSE's in a school in Bedfordshire, in which I was never really happy and didn't really fit in. I then took a year out before changing schools to do my A levels. I then started boarding at St Christopher's school in Letchworth to attend their sixth form. Words alone cannot do justice to how incredible that school is. It certainly has it's niggles, but not once did I ever wake up and think 'I don't want to go to school today.' The weirdest, most accepting and loving environment I have been in, it's wonderful. SEND YOUR CHILDREN THERE!

Whilst at St Chris I discovered running and within a year of starting running I've run two marathons, several half marathons and a handful of other races. I'm a member of the North Herts Road runners, a really welcoming and talented running club who are so warm and friendly!

I taught myself to run starting in september 2011, just doing 10 minutes on a treadmill everyday until I built it upto 30 minutes. After Christmas 2011 I went out for my first run outside and ran 5k easily, leaving me with a new found confidence. My dad gave me a Garmin and I then started running everyday before school, around Letchworth and into the surrounding towns. I was so proud because I'd done this on my own! I then raced in the MK half in March 2012 finishing in just over 2 hours! It was my first ever race and one of the best (and coldest) days of my life so far. I then stupidly entered the MK Marathon for April 2012 about 8 weeks later, after being goaded into doing it by some friends. I didn't tell anyone I was going to race until about fairly close to race day, my own dad didn't know until the week before! I ran it in 4 hours and 2 minutes, completely soaked but happy! I'd now tasted the marathon and want more...

over the summer in 2012 I found that I could quite easily run a bit faster. I started by doing some 10ks and surprising myself
