Emily Asher Saltzman

Drawing on nearly a decade of sexuality research, education and community organizing, Emily supports a variety of audiences through education and trainings. Her commitment to sexuality issues began as a teen in the Minneapolis suburbs and has continued through her connection to a diverse community of organizers, educators and social workers in New York City. Through a social justice fellowship with AVODAH - Jewish service corps - she worked at Gay Men’s Health Crisis where she co-facilitated groups to empower and increase the political engagement of HIV+ New Yorkers. She then continued on to receive her masters degree from Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. She concentrated her studies is Community Organization, Planning and Development where she also served as Co-President of the Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GASA). GASA, along with other grad student alliances, coordinated conferences for current social work students on various social justice topics that often were left out of the classroom.
Using an anti-oppressive and sex positive framework, Emily provides training and consultation for professionals, educators, activists, parents and fellow social workers on various topics that are often left out of mainstream education. For the past 3 years, Emily has served on the Steering Committee of the Undoing Racism Internship Project (URIP). Through this position Emily supports a team of interns, organizes events for students in all 13 Social Work schools in NYC and facilitates workshops on racial justice topics. As a white member of this collective, Emily continues to engage her fellow white social workers through education, processing and action while also challenging herself both personally and professionally.
