Emily Desear
An accomplished professional in New York City’s graphic design industry, Emily Desear recently joined InStyle magazine as Creative Director of Marketing. Among other responsibilities, she is working to develop a new visual branding system. Managing a team of graphic designers and freelance copywriters, Emily Desear oversees the completion of print advertisements, custom videos, and marketing presentations, in addition to actively contributing to the magazine’s digital media and special programs. She oversaw the design direction on The InStyle Boutique, an Internet pop-up store, as well as the promotional website, InStyleStyleStatements.com. Furthermore, Ms. Desear regularly collaborates with the team responsible for InStyle.com in order to maintain cutting-edge online marketing strategies.
Emily Desear studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at the School of Visual Arts in 1997. While completing her degree, she served a two-year design internship for the Condé Nast publication Mademoiselle magazine. Upon graduating from the School of Visual Arts, she accepted the position of Designer for The Condé Nast Media Group, helping to create marketing materials for the company’s prominent advertising partners.
Ms. Desear’s early professional experience also includes working as a Freelance Designer for TheKnot.com in 1999 and as an Art Director for Maru León Design from December 1999 to August 2002. More recently, she worked as Promotion Art Director at GQ magazine. In that capacity, she managed four graphic design professionals and effectively spearheaded the creation of marketing and promotional materials for the magazine and various advertising partners. Prior to accepting her current position with InStyle magazine, Emily Desear served as Design Director for Gourmet magazine, notably earning the Gourmet Magazine Marketer of the Year award in both 2006 and 2008.
