Emily Dresser
graduate in London, United Kingdom
I am a graduate with more than two years’ work experience in marketing, customer services, digital media and the leisure industry. I’m looking for a job in sports marketing, communications or development.
I’m hardworking, enthusiastic, eager to learn and happy to throw myself in at the deep end and work as hard as it takes to succeed.
I graduated this year with a 2.1 in history from Royal Holloway, part of the University of London.
University gave me many opportunities. I worked throughout my studies to help meet my living expenses. I worked for a telemarketing company cold-calling people about voting intentions before the General Election. I spent months working as an admin assistant for a ski holidays company. I qualified as a minibus driver and put in long hours at night driving students to and from campus. I produced a social media campaign for a conference organizing company. I also found time to coach sailing and swimming.
Sport is where I want to work. It has always been a huge part of my life. At school, I took part in all the usual team sports, including netball, volleyball, hockey and basketball. I sailed from an early age with my family and raced regularly in a wide variety of different classes. While still at school I caught the eye of selectors from British Canoeing and was invited to join a Talent ID scheme, which led to four years of intense training and competition.
I was a part of the Great Britain Sprint Kayaking squad from 2012-2015 and took part in international events, later winning the Junior Girls Trophy at the Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race in 2015.
While at university I was particularly heavily involved in student sport. I volunteered extensively in several societies and eventually became President of the University Swimming Club. This was a major challenge. Not only did I organise all our social events, but I was responsible for our social media activity, for finding volunteers to help run events, managing team transport and even overseeing our finances.
Sailing remains my biggest sporting passion and I have raced regularly from a very young age. Over the last five years, I have competed both domestically and internationally and I have experience in coaching, event organising and raising sponsorship.
Away from sport, I am also a keen musician, playing the violin, piano and guitar.
I am also really interested in travel. I spent the best part of a year working in France and my ambition is one day to live and work abroad.
