Emily Herrington
Baton Rouge, La.
My name is Emily Herrington and I’m a 21-year-old public relations senior and Spanish minor in the Manship School of Mass Communication at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Hailing from Metairie, I graduated in 2010 from an eccentric class of 27 from Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy.
I spent the past summer (2013) on Cape Cod, Massachusetts at an awesome internship with the Cape Cod Times. I was a full-time intern in the features department, where I got to do fun things like review concerts and attend film festivals.
For the 2012-13 academic year, I worked as the managing editor of The Daily Reveille, LSU’s student-run newspaper (SPJ's best all-around daily student newspaper in 2012!). I spent about 40 hours a week in the dimly lit basement of Hodges Hall editing copy, page proofs and design and fussing about spell-checking and double spaces after periods.
I’ve spent my college career working at various publications in a journalistic capacity, and now I’ve switched my major to public relations and am learning the other side of the story. I’m infiltrating the industry and picking up all the tricks of the trade (which I’m noticing aren’t quite as dirty as I once thought.)
