Emily Kopcik
Newtown CT
Hi, I’m Emily Kopcik and I'm a junior at the university of Delaware studying apparel design. I am from Newtown, CT which has really shaped me into the person I am today. I am hoping to one day use art and design in a charitable way that will help others.
I originally began my college career as a visual communications major in the art program. After enjoying my classes in graphics and illustration, I realized that I had a passion for print making and fashion illustration specifically, and decided to switch my major to design. This past winter session, I interned for Sam Edelman and I got to experience their graphics and pattern making department for shoes. I also worked on graphic t-shirt designs and home decor for their Sam and Libby Target line coming out next spring. This summer, I am returning to the company to work in their apparel department which I am eager to begin.
During the school year I have participated in UDress fashion Magazine, working on the art team for magazine layout and illustrations. I am also a new member to the apparel design club on campus, Synergy, joining events committee and participating in the yearly fashion show. I also enjoy participating in service projects through the service sorority Gamma Sigma and and the Sunshine club.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Emily Kopcik is inspired by art deco images, impressionist paintings, pop art, as well as modern art movements. She finds herself lost in old archives, looking at prints, paintings and illustrations. She is intrigued by the romantic lifestyles of the past. With a passion for prints, Emily strives to design pieces that tell a story and convey a clear inspiration using interesting patterns and lines that possess a vintage quality.
