Like most middle school students (and even some high schoolers), I had no idea what Flagline was the end of my eighth grade year. I walked into my future high school's band room determined to be a part of something to meet new people and not be that awkward high school freshman when August came around. Being the only upcoming freshman trying out for what is called Flagline, intimidated was an understatement. Little did I know that my courage on that day would lead to something greater.
Today, I write to you as a part of the University of Georgia's Flagline team- a position that is sought for by many high school flagline members. This journey was not always an easy one, but it was well worth the work. Flagline taught me the value of being a leader, through being captain for two years in high school, and the reward of being in a group of supporting friends and the supports of family and fans watching our half-time show. The most important thing I've learned, however, is knowing that through dedication and hard work, anything is possible.
