Emily Swartzwelder
Student, Musician, and Teacher in Bourbonnais, Illinois
I am currently a senior at Olivet Nazarene University studying Music Education. My applied instrument is piano and I am also a part of a 70-member choir. I will have a fifth year of undergraduate studies, during which I will complete my student teaching. I plan to graduate in the spring of 2017. I started this blog as a part of a course titled Reading in Content Areas, in which we discuss literacy and reading as Teachers in all disciplines.
I am a member of one of Olivet's Ministry Teams, The Narrow. We are a worship band of 9 members that travels around Olivet's district to Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin, where we lead worship for churches, youth camps, and events. I play keyboard and sing in this ministry team. We travel all school year throughout this district.
I also volunteer as a piano teacher at Life Compass Church in Kankakee, Illinois. Life Compass offers an Exploration of Arts program where free music and art lessons are offered to community children and given by volunteer teachers.
After I graduate, I hope to live in Michigan and plan on looking for a job as a high school choir director and music teacher.
I grew up in Western New York and, later, the St. Louis suburbs.
